What I would do if I had $5000 to spare…
If I had $5000 to spare right now, I will, without a doubt, fly to CalEarth (California Institute of Earth Art and Architecture) and enroll in a week-long workshop on how to make houses out of earth and earth bags. It’s been on my mind for quite some time now and I believe that Earthbagging will be the future. Everyone agrees that we are running out of resources. Developing new homes really impacts the environment and the costs gets higher year after year. Earthbagging is an alternative way for people to develop homes using the same earth that the house will stand on. Think about it, all the ancient people in the middle east build their homes this way. Home built out of earth bags
Usually homes made of earth bags are round because they are more stable and another very good thing about this is it is faster to build and more economical. Talk about dirt cheap. These homes are very earthquake proof and has been used as emergency homes for disaster areas like Haiti. If you’re not a fan of round homes, I’ve seen some home plans that are more traditional looking. I think Filipinos should adapt this and do away with mainstream and expensive homes and condos. Honestly, if you’re working in the Philippines it’s really hard to save enough money to get a decent and earthquake-proof home. So yeah, if I get the money and the time to do this gig, I will! I can make this a good business too and help people back at home to get the homes they deserve.
