Question by Don Jose’: Mango Trees : How many mango trees is too many?
My new mobile has a large, empty lot, ( 60′ W x 150′ D ). I love mango’s,so right after the last cold night here, ( Englewood, S of Venice ), on March 5th, 2009, I bought and planted four ( 4 ) mango trees, all about 6′ tall. One each of Glenn, Kent, Nam Doc Mai and a Valencia Pride. They have all grown at least 14 ” since and are thriving. Recently however, a friend, upon hearing this, was highly critical, saying they are huge trees and I should never have planted so many. ” What will you do with all the fruit, etc ” Now I am having doubts, even though the Glenn and Nam Doc Mai will only reach 15 – 20 ft and I carefully spaced them at least 20 ft apart. Did I go overboard ? What do the mango experts out there think ?
To those of us who are in the real world, unlike the first wacko responder, this question has nothing to do with religion. Please, I am hoping for a few rational responses, am still confident there are normal gardening guru’s out there who have some expertise to share. Thanks.

I am not a “mango expert” but a “mango lover”. It sounds as though
you have planted your trees intelligently with enough space between.
It also sounds as though your critical friend is having an attack of
“sour grapes” (sorry, could not resist). Do not doubt your
decision. It will be a while before your trees begin to fruit, and
there will be a gradual increase in production. I guarantee your
friend will be among the first wanting to eat your fruit.
